Grace, After All
It took a long time
But eventually
He reached a place where he fell
And couldn’t rise again.
His convictions
That had secured him
In the knowledge he was right
Gave way to ambiguity.
His passion
Which had inflamed him
And lit his way through the night
Guttered in the torch.
His will
Which had driven him
Escaped in huffing clouds
From his slack mouth.
It was grace, after all
That lifted him
And warmed his weary soul
Through the unforgiving night.
